The short version. You must be 18+ and a current student at UofA, MacEwan, NAIT, Concordia, King's or NorQuest. Be honest and kind. Show up, or cancel at least 3 hours before by texting Khio. We work hard on safety, but you are in charge of your own choices on a date.
Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Khio ("we", "us"), which runs Khio Match. By signing up on our website or texting Khio, you agree to them, to our privacy policy and to our community guidelines. If you do not agree, please do not use Khio Match.
Who can join
- You are 18 or older.
- You are a current student at the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, NAIT, Concordia University of Edmonton, The King's University or NorQuest College, with a working student email from that school that is yours.
- You have one account, it is yours, and everything you tell us about yourself is true, including your age and your photos.
- You have not been removed from Khio Match before.
Khio Match is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any of these schools.
How it works
You chat with Khio about yourself and who you would like to meet. Each week Khio may send you one match and a plan for a date at a public place near campus. Khio Match is free. We do not promise a match every week: if no one fits what you asked for, we will tell you and put you first in line the next week.
Khio is an AI. It can get things wrong. If something it says seems off, tell it or email [email protected].
Texts
Khio Match works by text message. Your carrier's normal messaging rates apply. Text "pause" to stop matches for a while, "stop" to stop messages, and "delete" to delete your account.
Dates, cancelling and no-shows
- Dates are only at the public places Khio suggests. Khio will never set one up at someone's home.
- If you can't make it, text Khio at least 3 hours before the date. Khio lets your match know.
- If you don't show up, or cancel with less than 3 hours to go without a real emergency, your account is paused for two weeks. A second time, your account is removed.
- Phone numbers are shared only if you both say yes on the day.
- You pay for anything you buy on a date unless the plan says otherwise.
Your conduct
Follow the community guidelines. In short: be real, be kind, respect consent, and never harass, threaten or harm anyone. We may pause or remove any account that breaks them, and we may report serious cases to police or campus security.
What you share
You keep ownership of your photos and words. You give us permission to use them only to run Khio Match: for example, to show your photos and first name to your match and to check that photos follow the rules. Only send photos of yourself that you have the right to share.
Safety, and what we cannot promise
We verify your school email, check photos before anyone is matched, plan dates in public places, and act on every report. We do not run criminal background checks or verify government ID, and we cannot guarantee how anyone behaves. Meet in the public place in the plan, tell a friend where you are, get yourself there and home, and leave if you feel unsafe. In an emergency call 911.
Ending your account
You can delete your account any time by texting "delete". We may pause or remove your account if you break these terms or the guidelines, if we believe you are not eligible, or to keep someone safe. If we remove you, you may not make a new account.
Liability
Khio Match is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for how other people behave on or after a date, for a date that does not happen, or for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Alberta consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will text you before the change applies. Using Khio Match after that means you accept the new terms.
